Family Rooms

For nearly 40 years, RMHSNJ has been a “home-away-from-home” for families whose children require life-saving treatments for critical illnesses and traumatic injuries.

Our Family Rooms, located in 9 South Jersey hospitals, are a comfortable place for parents, siblings, and extended family members to take a moment for themselves to rest and refresh while remaining on their childs hospital floor.

Family Room Hospitals

Atlantic City & Pomona, NJ

In 2008 the hospital moved the Pediatric unit from Mainland into the City and we moved our Family Room to that new location. In addition we opened another family room, our eighth, at Mainland in the NICU.

Somers Point, NJ

Through the generosity of Ronald McDonald House Charities, our second room, decorated in an under-the-ocean theme, opened in November of 2003 serving the many families from the surrounding shore area. Although we serve families year-round, the summer season ushers in a higher volume of pediatric patients whose families vacation at the shore.

Washington Township, NJ

Our third Family Room, the only one in the country located in an Emergency Department, has been in operation since April 2004, serving Gloucester County. Funding for this site was made possible by Ronald McDonald House Charities and our corporate partner, Valero Refining Company – New Jersey. The room is staffed seven days a week during designated hours, with the help of adult and student volunteers, to meet the demands of a highly utilized Emergency Department. In 2008 we opened our seventh Family Room in Jefferson’s NICU with a memorial bequest in honor of Nicholas Sayles, a UNDNJ medical student.

Vineland, NJ

Our fourth Family Room opened in November 2004, serving Cumberland and Salem Counties, in this new state-of-the-art hospital. Long-time Ronald McDonald House supporters, the Catalana Family and Cumberland Dairy, partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities, to create this room, serving pediatrics, special care nursery and the transitional nursery.

Voorhees, NJ

In September 2005 our fifth Family Room opened in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in an environment reminiscent of a Parisian Cafe, with painted awnings, cozy white rattan furniture, and a floral motif. This room is generously sponsored by Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Patrick Monaghan Foundation.

Mt Holly, NJ

Our ninth and tenth Family Rooms opened in December 2008 providing comfort in the Special Care Nursery and Pediatrics. The rooms were made possible with generous grants from RMHC and the Virtua Foundation. Our partnership with the Monaghan Family allowed us to also provide a children’s playroom offering a fun play space away from the bedside. The Pediatric Family Room is decorated in a beach theme serves Burlington County. The families needing the services consist of 30% military from Fort Dix and McGuire air Force Bases. Many of the spouses are serving our country overseas. The family room allows us to be part of their extended family.

Camden, NJ

Our sixth Family Room at Cooper, our neighbor in Camden, offers an Internet-cafe themed room near their NICU. Funding was provided by grants from Ronald McDonald House Charities and The Women’s Board of Cooper University Hospital.

Trenton, NJ

Our eleventh Family Room opened in March 2009 with generous help from RMHC and local McDonald’s owner/operators Tom Smolar and Frank Quinn. This room located in the newly renovated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Trenton, the State Capital, provides care within the city. The brightly colored space provides cheerful comfort, a respite from medical equipment, a place to refresh and access to the internet, all within the secure unit allowing the families to remain close to their infants.
